What is the Semen Analysis Process?
Providing a Sample
You’ll need to provide a sperm sample by masturbating into a sterile collection container at our lab or at home. It’s best to avoid ejaculating for 2-5 days beforehand, as this can help increase the concentration of sperm.
Sample Analysis
The semen sample is evaluated within 1 hour, as a delay can cause the sample to degrade. Our embryologists will analyze the semen under a high-powered microscope, counting the sperm concentration, grading the motility, and assessing morphology.
Results Consultation
You will then have a consultation with one of our fertility specialists to review the complete semen analysis report. If abnormalities are detected, further testing like hormonal profiles or genetic testing may be recommended.
